Is there a Hop on /Hop off Bus in Sorrento?

Hi, I am not sure if I ask this question right. We will be in Sorrento for 3 days. Is there a bus that can take us to Amalfi
to do some sightseeing? we also plan to see Pompeii and Capri/ Anacapri. Thanks.

Yes, there are Sita buses than can take you from Amalfi from Sorrento, about 2+ hours each way. Yes, there is a Circumvesuviana train from Sorrento to Pompei, less than 1 hour each way. And yes, there are ferries and faster boats between Sorrento and Capri, less than 1 hour each way. Having said all that, your plan is absurd. First, you will see nothing of Sorrento. Pompei requires a full day, including the round trip. You will barely get a half day in Capri, and Anacapri. And the non-stop, round-trip to Amalfi will take another full day -- but you will barely see the coast, if you're lucky enough to get a seat on the best side of the bus, both ways. Rethink!

For a more traditional HOHO bus in Sorrento and Amalfi Coast see link. http://www.city-sightseeing.it/eng/city_sightseeing_sorrento.htm Ticket prices for the local Sita buses and the Amalfi Coast timetable http://www.unicocampania.it/index.php?lang=en¢er=inside&colonna=turisti&action=costiera&banner=costiera http://www.sitabus.it/sitabus/campania/orarioCAMPANIA/QUADROXIV.pdf There is also an organised bus tour from Sorrento http://www.goldentours.it/en/amalfi_drive.php If you have 3 full days your itinerary is doable. Edit - the Sorrento - Capri timetable http://www.capri.net/en/ferry-schedule?path_id=14 the link willl also give you other info on Capri including getting around the island. When you arrive in Sorrento go to the Tourist Info Office at the Foreigners Club to pick up copies of the latest timetables etc, things change.

I agree with Linda, your plan is possible. I'd recommend trying to see Herculaneum as well as Pompeii - I preferred it. Nothing wrong with not seeing much of Sorrento, it made a good base but I thought it was totally oversold as a destination in its own right.

I disagree with Kathy. Sorrento is a wonderful, charming town and very worthy of exploring and spending time in. We've been there 3 times in the past 6 yrs because we love being there.

Thanks everyone for your feedbacks. You're right Guy, 3 days is not enough in Sorrento with it's sidetrips. However, with 2 weeks and 3 separate areas to cover - Rome - Sorrento and Barcelona that is what it comes up to. Crazy? yes but I am just thankful and will make the most of it. You made me start thinking that I have very little time to cover - Pompeii/ Capri- Anacapri/ Amalfi. On a separate post, I'll ask the question of whether is it better to take a private car tour? Thanks again.
