Since reading in April 2016 that the Verona Opera is in liquidation, I have been trying to follow the latest news to see if the summer season is still planned. However, attempts to find up-to-date info on the situation on-line are failing miserably. Several months ago I purchased two tickets for Carmen in July and am dearly hoping that we will get to experience (again) the magnificent setting and music of that arena. Does anyone (lachera??) have any further news on the Verona Opera situation?

If I'm reading this article from June 2 correctly, what they're proposing to do to save money is to shut down during the months of October and November. They're still negotiating, but I find it impossible to believe that the summer opera season would be suspended. It's possibly the biggest draw during the summer in Verona.

If I'm making correct (more or less) sense of the article that Michael posted, through google translate, it looks like the autumn is still being negotiated, but there is no more mention of possibly closing the summer season. Thank you, both, very much!

I can confirm that the opera will be running till the end of the summer season. At the end of the summer it will be decided what to do, the present proposal being shutting up for a couple of months (not paying wages, of course) in order to spare some money. Actually the matter is much more complex as most Italian opera houses are expected to switch from full time to seasonal working, and it will be a tragedy for musicians and techs. How and when, this is still to be decided, but the Verona situation is part of a larger puzzle.
