It is my understanding that the ETIAS system has been delayed until 2025. Is this correct?
Correct, and may yet be delayed again. Nothing needed for 2024.
At this point, not sure I would bet on 2025 with any confidence.
ETIAS has been delayed because it is caught up with what they are calling the EES (Entry/Exit System) which is a networked electronic system to be used by all Schengen countries for tracking entries. Right now, there is only a piecemeal system with each country having it's own system and sharing at least some data among the countries.
The positive is that when ETIAS/EES is finally implemented, it promises that entry will be much easier, using e-gates, like at some airports already, but not having to then stand in line then to see an actual person. (and likely no more stamps)
I liken the rollout of the ETIAS system to the rollout of REAL ID in the US. It's been delayed, postponed, and/or rescheduled so often it's just noise to me. The latest date is May 7, 2025. In my head, I hear my parents saying "we mean it this time, Buster!"
