Is the beach in Tirrenia swimable?

I just want to take a week off between my two conferences in Florence and swim in the ocean. I found a cheap hotel on the beach in Tirrenia-- but is that swimmer friendly? I don't want to just lay there and look at it, i want to actually swim in it.
