Is Sorrento the best place to take a Modo Tour of Amalfi/Positano/Ravello?

We are staying two nights in Naples (doing city and Pompeii visit), then staying two nights in Anacapri. Is it logical to take the ferry
from AnaCapri to Sorrento, and stay there two or three nights?

Hi cvartuli -
Your question is a little confusing. If you are looking at taking the RS shared Mondo Tour of the coast, then yes, you'll want to be in Sorrento as that's where it starts: 9:00 AM, according to the website. Also, due to the cost of ferries to/from the island of Capri, I would not base there if planning to sightsee elsewhere. I'd spend your two nights in Anacapri as planned and then relocate to Sorrento for 2-3 nights for exploring the Sorrentine/Amalfi coast.

Remember that 2 nights = only 1 FULL day of sightseeing so three, 2-night stays in a row is quite a bit of moving about, IMHO. You also don't mention what month you'll be traveling? That will affect ability to use ferries between Sorrento/Positano/Amalfi (although they travel to Capri all year as weather permits) and number of open businesses on the island.

Thanks, Kathy.

We are arriving in Naples Oct. 4 and going to Anacapri on Oct. 6.
Do you know if the ferry runs to Sorrento in October?

From what I have read, Sorrento is a pleasant place, and I think we'll stay there three or four days, then back to Naples for our last night.

Yes, they'll be running Naples> Sorrento in October. Explore your options here:

It is possible for very bad weather to cause cancellations.

And yes, Sorrento is a plenty pleasant enough place, we thought. Its biggest advantage is as a transport hub for ferries (seasonal except to/from Naples and Capri), SITA buses, and cheap local commuter train (Naples> Sorrento and points, like Pompeii, in between). Because it's not super small, it also offers a nice variety of restaurants and other visitor amenities.

A comment? With only 1 full day to give to Naples, I'd do Pompeii from Sorrento if you're planning on spending 3-4 days there. If interested in excavations, you might consider doing Herculaneum from Naples as it's closer and smaller? Also visit the archeological museum in Naples as well.
