Is Rome generally cloudy at the end of November?

Hello,

I'm thinking of going to Rome next November for the week of Thanksgiving. Is the weather often cloudy and rainy at this time?

I'm asking not because I hate cloudy weather, but because I love it. I was in Paris in April and November this year, and I thought the city was so so much more beautiful in November because it was cloudy every single day I was there.

It’s impossible to predict this far in advance.

Early November is notoriously wet in Italy, but less so at the end of the month.

Even after moving to the US I used to go to Italy every Thanksgiving till recently so I’m sure I’ve spent at least 40 ‘end of November’ in Italy during my lifetime.

Along with rainy times, I also distinctly remember jogging in the park near my house with clear skies during those late November periods. Maybe somewhat cold and hazy skies, but definitely clear.

Take your chance.

Rome has a gorgeous climate and being socked-in by clouds and rain is less common than many other cities. Venice is more likely to have that kind of weather in November in my experience, as well as Milano.

No guarantees anywhere, of course! We have the one of the driest, sunniest Novembers on record in Western Oregon this year. You’d have been miserable. 😉

The weather in November and December can fluctuate in Rome. I'd say we had rain about 50% of our days (I came back on Monday, Dec. 16th).

There was a "Medicane" along the Messina Straights that our cruise ship had to go through. The schools in Naples and Rome were closed because of very high winds.

On the wonderful side, we had a wonderful and sunny day on Dec 15th in Ostia. You just never know.

Seems to be, Laurel, Donna's comments above about November & December weather notwithstanding.

Can't get out of my mind late February in Rome a couple years ago. Windows partially open all night at our 2nd floor efficiency, letting the fresh 40-degree air in. Waking early with the sounds of the market vendors arriving to set up their stalls for the day, I donned running shoes & a stocking cap and strode briskly down to the ancient Tiber for a walk. Doubling back, I stopped by my favorite barrister for a quick caffe & an English language newspaper. Then back to the apartment to wake my wife & start my day!

So true, Jay! Two of my favorite times in Rome - just as morning is breaking (December) - I am looking out my hotel window, breathing in the cool air, listening to the sounds of trucks and people starting their day. Also, as day begins to turn to evening - the sky is so beautiful as I walk along the streets of Rome...ahh.
