I am visiting Italy with a girlfriend who has never been.
We are heading to Florence (by train) for a few days and then to Umbria. I am considering whether it is advisable to rent a car to visit some of the towns in the surrounding areas or whether we can rely on public transportation. A friend recommended renting a car through www.holidayautos.com. I would imagine the answer depends on which towns we will visit.
With a car, there is the issue paying for gas, parking, not being able to drive in certain areas. But, it does allow for more flexibility.
Any recommendations for towns is also appreciated (Tuscany = I've been to San Gimignano, Siena, Lucca, Pisa; Umbria = I've only been to Orvieto)
