We'll be traveling from Nice into Italy in October. Our goal is to travel along the Liguarian coastline and ultimately end in Lazio to visit family. We plan on returning the car in Rome.
Is San Remo our easiest option?

San Remo is the closest town to the border with a rental car company, however I think the only rental car company with an office in San Remo is AVIS, which is usually a bit more expensive than others.
Another option is to stay on the train a bit further to Savona (between San Remo and Genoa), where there are plenty of rental car options.
