Is our itinerary realistic for a week in Italy?

This will be our first time in Italy and were wondering if our itinerary is realistic. In a nutshell, Venice -> Vernazza -> Rome, and below is the description.

July of this year:

2nd - Arrive Morning Venice

3rd - Venice

4th - Leave Afternoon Venice, Arrive Vernazza

5th - Leave Afternoon Vernazza, Arrive Rome

6th - Rome

7th - Rome

8th - Fly Back Home from Rome

Also, we are planning on taking the train, is there a direct train from Venice to Vernazza and from Vernazza to Rome? And what is the best website to buy train tickets from? I found trenitalia, but I do not know if this is the "go to" website. Or should I just buy train tickets "on the spot" instead of "in advance"?

We are planning on using Airbnb for our stay in Italy.

Thanks

At best you have 5 1/2 days total. As much as I would hate to do it, I would drop Vernazza. Google lists the train from Venice to Venazza as 5.5 to 6 hours (this maybe wrong, someone please correct me if so) and it's somewhat out of the way. Train from Venice to Rome is about 4 hours. I would spilt my time between those 2 cities.

No, your schedule is not reasonable. Unless there is a special reason to go to Vernazza I would save it for another time. Your total time is to short. Trenitalia is a very good site for tickets. Sometimes it doesn't like US credit cards but you will not know until you try. Verified VISA generally works or use PAYPAL.

PS Just checked schedules - it will be 6-7 hours with two changes getting to Vernazza and 4.5 to 6 hours with one change getting to Rome. Do you really want to spend that much time inside a train with a six day trip??

If you purchase your ticket from Venice to Rome in advance, you will save a lot on fare. You can look for a "super economy" fare and pay 40-50 euro rather than 90. Trenitalia is the bigger train cmpany in Rome so has the most routes/times and it is easy to buy from the website. Italo is another option.

Awesome, thank guys so much for the replies. After discussing with my wife, we will skip Vernazza and just go directly to Rome from Venice. I guess we were too ambitious. Will look into that other website, Italo.

Any more tips are appreciated. We are also reading the travel tips from this website.
