We are leaving next week for our Italian adventure, with four nights in Orvieto. I have been searching but cannot find any news on Orvieto except references to an earthquake in May when schools closed and whatnot. I am assuming no news is good news. Can anyone confirm this for me? Thanks!
It was not damaged. Here's a link to a BBC article that includes map showing the areas of damage:

The city authorities surveyed the area and the territory of the municipality of Orvieto apparently suffered no damage
Thank you for that confirmation. What a relief to the people of Orvieto! My heart goes out to the victims of this earthquake.
I was in Orvieto in June. It's great. Loved it. I want to go back. So, enjoy! No earthquake troubles or damage. Here's a tip I learned the hard way. The regional train doors have big, heavy red handles that do not automatically open. When the train stops in Orvieto, you have to grab the handle and give it a heavy jerk sideways -like a van door - to open. Visit Civita Di Bagnoregio and enjoy a nice glass of Orvieto white wine down the staircase in the "cellar." I can look up the name of the wine bar. It's run by a friendly British lady who lives there. It 's not expensive. On Saturdays, there is an open air market until 1 pm in the public square. Good for getting "food truck" type food.
I have an acquaintance who lives near Orvieto. She said that it woke her up and was quite strong and scary but that there was no significant damage in her area or the towns around her.
Thank you for that update about no damage in Orvieto. We'd like to visit the cathedral there in 2 weeks. Prayers and thoughts for the people that were affected by the earthquake, for comfort and peace.
Thank you so much for the advice about the train door! Indeed, we are arriving by train, so I will put that advice to good use! I am so excited to visit Italy!
Lucky you guys who are visiting Orvieto soon, and while the impact of these earthquakes is tragic and devastating, I too am glad that wonderful Orvieto was evidently spared. Be sure to be in front of the Duomo in the late afternoon or early evening. The facade is amazing in that direct late sunlight!
Not every regionale train has that heavy door, but all doors have graphics showing or pointing to how to open them. Some are push-button.
You probably won't be the only people getting off in Orvieto, let someone else get off before you. It's usually a very short stop, so be ready to get off.
In reference to barbnrob94's comment about the train to Orvieto, I wish I had heard that before we got there last year! We could not get the door at the rear of the train to open so we missed our stop and had to get off at the next one! It took us several hours to get back there but fortunately we found a delightful place next to the depot that served a nice gin and tonic, which was very welcome after 36 hours without sleep. So glad to hear Orvieto is unharmed--hope Benano is as well.
