Is Milano Card or Milan Pass worth buying? Day trip to Lake Como

We are spending 5 days in Milan - one of which we want to visit Lake Como. May 1st is Labor Day in Italy; with museums and sites closed, we thought that we would go to Lake Como on that day.
Is it worth the cost to get either the Milano Card or Milan Pass? We have used the city passes in other cities/countries and have been able to skip the lines at most sites and felt that the "skip the line" feature in itself made the passes worth the investment.
Also, does it make sense to visit Lake Como on a national holiday or will it be mobbed with Italian nationals enjoying their day off from work. (May 1 is a Friday - will it be the start of a long weekend like in the USA?)
Thanks for any detailed info that you can provide.
