Okay, so we are off to Tuscany, and I have planned the following itinerary. Please let us know if we are overly ambitious.:) Arrive in Bologna Sept. 28th, train to Florence Sleep in Florence till the morn of Oct 1st. Train to Lucca, sleep in Lucca Oct. 1st. Pick up car there and drive to Deiva Marina, stay there for next three days and explore Cinque Terre. depart Cinque T. on Oct. 5, drive to Chianti, specifically Castelnuovo Berandenga. stay there for 4 days. Leave on Oct 9th, and drive South to Castiglione d'Orcia. Stay until Oct.12. Drop car off on Oct.12 and train to Rome. Stay there until Oct. 15, and fly home to Canada. WHEW!

Hi Lynn, I haven't been to all of the place that you've mentioned but it looks like you've scheduled 3-4 nights in each destination which shouldn't make your trip feel too rushed.....It would be great if you could spend a night or two in Bologna rather than leaving right away.....I'd suggest reserving hotel rooms that you can cancel if you decide to spend more or less time in each location......We were in Italy last year in the early part of October and it was much warmer than I expected.....not sure what temps are like this year! Enjoy your travels!

Bologna is a nice place to explore and not terribly touristy.
