Is it possible?

Is it possible to visit the Academi, Uffizi and climb the Duomo in one day? If so, any suggestions. If not, what would you skip?

Yes it's possible. But I think you will need to reserve ticket times for the museums to manage it. I'd plan on a very quick lunch and an early start. If it's too much, I'd skip one museum or the other. But that's just me. I find I enjoy art for about 2-3 hours at a time and then I stop absorbing.

Jenny is right. It is possible as long as you time you reservations correctly. Leave alot more time for the Uffizi, particularily if you are an art lover.

Yeah, you might feel overstimulated and have a headache though. Keep in mind that part of the time involved with getting through the Uffizi is the crowds. You may want to spend some time with a certain painting, but you have to wait for the tour group of 50 to get out of the way so that you can swoop in and take your spot. There are a lot of folks in there. I have climbed the campanile (430-something steps if memory serves) and the nice thing about it is that there are various floors on the way up where you can stop and rest if, like me, you get a bit winded. I am not sure if that is the case with the Dome. Either way, they are both going to get you up to a height where you have spectacular views. The benefit of going up the dome would be to see the inside of the church from high up and get a close look at the wonderful frescos in it, and then obviously to have the views from the pinnacle. Whereas with the campanile, you just get the views from the top.

Sure it is posible, and you can do justice to all three, assuming your main interest in the Accademia is the David. The Duomo climb is great and very interesting, as you go up between the inner and outer walls of the dome and see how it was constructed. (Read "Brunelleschi's Dome" for a fascinating account of how it was built). Make a reservation for the Accademia at 11:00 am and for the Uffizi at 2:00 pm. Get to the Duomo and find the entry door for the climb before 9:00 am-we found no line at all at that time, in late June. With no line, you can climb at your own speed (we are fast on the stairs and enjoyed not gettin gstuck behind slower people). Enjoy the view from the top but watch the time, allowing an hour to descend, walk to the Accademia, and pick up your reserved tickets. Marvel at the David but don't spend much time with the paintings-you will see much better at the Uffizi. Leave the Accademia before noon and wander back toward the Uffizi, stopping for a quick lunch (not a full-on sit-down meal) on the way. You'll have the rest of the afternoon to spend in the Uffizi.

It takes an hour to descend from the top of the dome? Why?

No, it doesn't take an hour. More like 10 or 15 minutes. I was allowing extra time for possible congestion in the narrow parts ( waiting for people coming up) then walking to the Accademia, maybe through the street market, finding the line for reservation holders, etc.

I totally agree with Lola! Be at the duomo when it opens, climb up and enjoy the view it is really quick to come back down. An hour is enough time in the duomo. Then at the Accademia; look at the Michaelangelo's unfinished prisoners on the way back to David, then take your time and enjoy every detail of David, and listen to Rick's commentary. Leave a few minutes for the gift shop, because you can't take photos inside, so you'll want some postcards. On the way to the Uffuzi, you can see the outdoor replica of David, where you can take plenty of pictures. Then you can take your time in the Uffuzi, also using Rick's MP3 tour. You can see the famous Ponte Vecchio bridge from one point in the Ufuzzi, then go visit in time for sunset. Why just a day in Florence? Jan
