Is it better to stay in Milan and travel to lake como by car or book 2 days in lake como.

I'm arriving in Venice on may 10 and checking out on May 12. Unfortunately the Marriott Boscolo Would not extend my stay at the same rate so I really only have 1 full day in Venice. I must see Murano but that will shorten my time scheduled in lake como for 2 days which would be May 12 to May 14. I have not booked a hotel yet in como because it's starting to feel like all I'm doing is driving and checking in and out of cities. I do have confirmed hotel reservation in Milan on May 14 to May 16.

I wanted to extend Venice by 1 day and add a day to Milan and travel from there to como as a day trip.
Does anyone have a recommendation on como vs Milan.

Go to Lake Como for the two days, just take the train to Varenna and ferry arose no from there

Are you referring to the city of Como, or just any town on the lake? My suggestion would also be the small town of Varenna. You might also consider the city of Stresa on Lago Maggiore. For the places you're visiting, a car is not necessary and comes with some potentially expensive "caveats". Travel by train will be much easier and faster (no car can legally travel at 300 km/h).

Find a second place in Venice. There must be somewhere that will have you and probably cheaper than the Marriott if you look around.

What are your minimum requirements and maximum budget?

Don't drive. Use trains to and from and boats on Lake Como.

I love Milano but I would rather spend time on the lake, especially if you are visiting mostly cities.

Agree with Nigel -- find another hotel in Venice. If that fails, then go to Lake Como. No need to drive as there is good train service to Varenna.

Find another hotel in Venice. It is definitely worth it. Then say somewhere on the Lake and not in Milan, unless leaving from there.

Agree find another place to stay in Venice, one day is not long enough. Also, we did the drive from Milan to Lake Cuomo, it's not bad, once past Cuomo roads are narrow but no problem if you are careful. I wouldn't stay in the city Cuomo but stay further up near Bellagio. Plenty of ferry service there to a number of places.
