Is it better to stay in Assisi or Spoleto as a "home" for touring Umbria

We are planning to spend 6 nights in either Spoleto at a B&B or a agritourismo in Assisi and do day trips to Perugia, Arezzo, Montefalco ....Which would be the better choice? We know a tour guide from Rome who recommended Palazzo Sant'Angelo in Spoleto and I found the Borgo Antichi Orti Assisi in Assisi. We are torn between the two. Not sure if our tour guide is pushing Spoleto too hard. As a base which is better for 6 nights? I appreciate the input!

We will be taking the train or bus except for Montefalco when we will have a guide to the wineries.

Hi Christine,
They are both about the same. The Borgo is outside the wall of the city and really close to the train and the Palazzo in Spoleto is very near the train and bus also

Give us some more information and you'll be getting lots of ideas! My first thought: Assisi (the medieval city on the mountainside, not the newer city in the valley) is a very special place. The days can be busy with tour groups but the evenings are relaxing, rejuvenating and magical. I spent 16 years (2 weeks each July) there with a music festival. It's a wonderful place to walk. The Piazza Comune is very comfortable for drinks, gelato, people watching and planning your next day's excitement.

We loved Assisi, beautiful town.
Only went in to Spoleto to drop our car, didn't seem very charming. It's also a bit farther away from your planned day trips. Check the train and bus schedules, see which works best.

I appreciate the replies. I also thought Assisi would be better but wanted some input. Our tour guide is wonderful but possibly had "ulterior motives". She is very good by the way. Spoleto seemed a little far out. Staying in the agritourismo seems like a real change from the norm and would be a great experience. Day trips around the region by train, bus or guide should be easy enough. Our first trip in 2019 was a blur running around. We want to enjoy the culture more.
Thank you again for your input!

Spoleto was the only place in Umbria that we did not care for. We stayed in Spello, magical!
