We will be in Verona in August for a few days and was thinking about a day trip to visit Ortesei to see the Dolomite area, shop, have lunch, etc.. We will not have a car.
I know I can get a train to Bolzano but I am not sure the best way to get to Ortesei. I think there is a bus but will all these connections take too long- hire a driver? Maybe just look around Bolzano?
Is this idea feasible or would I be better off waiting on this for another trip?
Thanks for any info and advice!
I think you'd be better served doing it right and spending a few days in the
Dolomites, whether this trip or another one. You can't really even get the
full perspective from Ortisei town as you're still lower in elevation. You'd
want to take a cable car up into at least the Alpe di Siusi or Seceda.
However, I do see that there is a cable car in Bolzano, the Funivia Renon,
which is walking distance from the train station and takes you up to the
town of Oberbozen for the princely sum of 10 EUR roundtrip. That seems
like it would fit more easily into a day and get you up into the mountains
at least a bit.
There is also one in Trento walking distance of the train station. Nice views from the top.
Trento sounds like an amazing place to visit! Ya’ll are right…we need to visit Ortesei and the Dolomites for several days on another trip. Thanks so much!
