This is the neighborhood closest to our hotel (Marconi stop Metro Line B). I was thinking on our first evening in Rome after a long flight, this would be the closest neighborhood to get to for dinner and a stroll before heading back to our hotel and crashing for the night. I would appreciate any suggestions on restaurants, gelato and best area for a walk.
I've been to EUR. I don't recall the Marconi Metro stop, but the best stop to get off would be Palasport. That overlooks an open park and (looking out at the park) behind you a few blocks will be a commerical street lined with nice shops and restaurants. Via Europa is the street. That's about all there is for places to eat that I know of. It's a local area so the restaurants will not be touristy. BTW - It's a safe, quite neighborhood.
A few blocks beyond that (up the hill) is the actual EUR. It's not that interesting unless you're into Fascist architecture and it feels more like suburbia than Rome. There are a few decent museums if you have time or interest. There may also be a few decent restaurants near the convention center, but everything is spread out so searching randomly may not be worth it.
RS mentions EUR in his section on Rome and includes a decent map.
