Is anyone familiar with Garfagnana? Can I get there by train

I have a cousin in CETO (Garfagnana region) who I will be visiting. Not sure if I can get there by train? A couple of people told me not to rent a car in Italy as it will be very costly (and possible a rip-off). Yes, I will ask my cousin about trains as well. :-)

I don't see a Certo in Garfagnana on the map.
I visited Barga via bus from Lucca. I was only there a couple days, so it was fine without a car, but if I were to return, I would go with a car.

There's a train that runs through the valley once or twice a day between Lucca and Aulla, so you can probably get close once you get an accurate town name.

No luck, the only Ceto in Italy is north of Brescia in Lombardy. Also no 'sounds like' place names in the Garfagnana. Many older hamlet names, say on a grandfather's birth certificate, may no longer be in use.

If it's Ceto in Vallecamonica, you need to get the Edolo train from Brescia. Easy

Ceto in the Province of Brescia is indeed north of the Garfagnana valley.

It reminds me of one time in Scottsdale at a restaurant. The waiter told me that his parents were originally from a town east of Portofino. I asked him if it was Paraggi, or maybe Santa Margherita or maybe Chiavari. After several tries he finally remember the name, it turned out they were from near Capannori, in the province of Lucca. East of Portofino was somewhat correct.
