My family and I want to do a day trip to Lauterbrunnen in December (next year) from Italy…probably Milan area. Is this doable at that time of year? Thank for the help!
Kim
possible yes.
prudent? courageous...
If you want to see snow covered mountains on the way and on the way back, remember that the days are short and the fast trains from Milan spend a good deal of their time under the mountains in really long BasisTunnel so you see nothing.
If you don't want the long tunnel the route above takes much longer, and that brings us back to the shortness of days.
Depending on when in December and if the snow is early you may be sharing the local trains and cable cars with snowboarders and skiiers.
Where in IT are you traveling from?
The shortest connections, leaving quite early (7 or 8am) from Milano Centrale, need 4 hours to 4 hours and half, but most other connections during the day need 5 or 6 hours. Wondering if it is doable at any time of the year. Have a look at sbb.ch
