Is a COVID flight the only way to get to Italy this August?

We booked a Delta flight in early May thinking that since we're vaccinated that there would be no problem flying into Venice. Nothing at the time mentioned COVID flights. Its looking more and more like this is not going to change this summer. It's a COVID tested flight or nothing. Delta has been no help. A Delta rep that I talked to said this will change eventually. Im not much of a gambler. We dont know whether to stick with our airfare that we have, or to change for a lot more money, or to cancel.

No one knows at this time. The entry rule situation changes daily as nations get control of the virus. I bought a Delta Covid tested flight from JFK into Venice 2 days ago leaving July 21. Covid flights are only available from select cities so I have a separate ticket into New York where I will go visit two days before I leave for Italy.

To change to a COVID flight from Portland Oregon, we are looking at going from our current flight at about $3000 to a COVID flight at around $9000.

Italy has only authorized Covid flights through July 31st. There is talk of Italy dropping them and opening up even earlier.

The Italian Ministry of Health disagrees with you...

"The trials of ‘Covid-tested’ flights established by the Ordinances of 23 November 2020 and 9 March 2021 have been extended to 30 October 2021, without prejudice to possible further extensions."

All you need to enter Italy is the vaccine card showing you have been vaccinated. Lufthansa's web site is the the most current information available

@Travelisfun

We’re also flying out of JFK to Rome in September. When were you leaving ? We’re on Air Italia and so far.. our flight is still active. Fingers crossed!

I’m on American Airlines. My mistake lol. I’m rerouted through Madrid now after being reassigned to a different flight and no longer a direct flight. Disappointed about that. But at least I still have a flight!

Well it's now the end of June and we are no longer worried about COVID flights. At the time of my original post in early June we were worried about the cost of getting to Atlanta or New York from the west coast for those COVID flights, the only way to get into Italy at the time. Now...no problema. We will use our original airfare we booked in early May. We're vacinated, we will fill out the PLF form, and we're ready to go. Thanks for some of the advice.
