Is 15 an adult or child on Trenitalia

Ciao! My brother and I are going on a trip through Italy in late September and im just now getting to the train tickets. After putting in my brothers age in the checkout, it pops up an error and changes the total price to count him as a child. He is currently 14 but will be 15 right before we leave. Can I still proceed with buying the ticket or should I wait till he turns 15. Don't want any issues when getting our tickets checked.

That depends on if it is a national train (Freccia, InterCity) or a regional train as they have different age limits.

On all national trains, in both 1st and 2nd class, and at all levels of service (Executive/Business/Standard/Premium), children over 4 and under 15 years of age are entitled to a 50% or 30% discount on the Base price for services in Sleeping Cars and Comfort Couchettes.

So if you put in a travel date after your kid's 15th birthday, it should charge him/her as an adult.
