Is 130€ a good value in Venice?

I'm going next month and am struggling to find any well-rated hotel for less than that. I found a double room for single use for $172/night. It's a 3-star hotel in Canareggio (Ca Pozzo Inn)

I've stayed at Hotel Tivoli a few times. It's probably not "well-rated" but I enjoyed its cleanliness and the friendliness of the family that runs it. A good breakfast is included. The hotel is close to the Frari Church.

I meant guest rating not star rating. Hotel Tivoli has very good reviews on Tripadvisor and Booking.com. But unfortunately it's booked! I would definitely consider it on another trip.

Booking so close to when you're traveling, in what is still considered high season, results in fewer and often more expensive choices. We stayed at Pensione Guerrato and enjoyed it. I don't know if there's anything available for your dates, but it would be worth checking.

We were there in May and that seems like a good rate to me. We wound up staying at a place through Airbnb for less, considering the area. I might suggest you try that route if you're looking to save money.

Andrea, Pension Guerrato costs 145€/night. (unless you share the bathroom)

Their prices must have increased since I was there. We paid 135€ for a double with ensuite. Have you tried booking sites like hotels.com?

Sean, I find that costs in Venice seem to run a bit "higher" than other places in Italy. If you can find a room for €130 and the location and "comfort level" are what you're looking for, I'd book it soon. If you'd like to consider something a bit more "basic", you could have a look at Albergo Doni. A single room without bathroom is in the €40 - €70 range. It's in a great location close to Piazza San Marco and Vaporetto stops. If you're willing to compromise on "comforts" to some extent, it's worth a look. Cheers!

Try Hotel La Serenissima. The location is midway between the Rialto Bridge and St. Marks's.

Try Booking.com to see a number of options. It's a pain to try hotel by hotel one at a time! Also, try VRBO.com and Airbnb.com. But stay in Venice at all costs. Do not be seduced by lower prices in Mestre. Not worth it!

Don't know about your standards vs dollars. I have a double room for single use, with private bathroom, in October, for 90E at Hotel Doni. It's a 5-minute walk from San Marco, behind the Doge's palace, on the first small canal after the one spanned by the bridge of sighs. I've stayed before and liked it. It may be zero stars (or maybe 1), so it's very simple. Breakfast is included, but is probably the most minimal I've seen in Italy. I don't think there's AC, but haven't needed it. You might check with them. The location is great, it is clean, the ensuite bathrooms are new (although the shared ones looked older), and it is quiet. They speak some English.

Another resource that allows you to look only at places that have availability for your dates is venere.com.

Sean,
My wife and I stayed at the Residenza Ca' San Marco, Venice for under 70€ a night, breakfast included. This was in June, 2012. This a wonder, small, B&B about half way between Rialto bridge and St. Marks square.

Steven, I took a look at Ca'San Marco's website. Their rate for December 2014 is €64/night
but for June 2014 it's 164€/night I guess Venice in high-season is expensive no matter how much you book in advance.
