Ireland-to-Italy air questions

Hi, everyone:

I have a travel / passport control / customs question. Later this month we will be traveling to Italy flying on Aer Lingus from Chicago ORD through Dublin to FCO.

Since Ireland is not a Schengen-agreement country, will we need to pass through passport control / customs in both Dublin and Rome airports? Or, since we are in-transit in Dublin, will we only go through passport control / customs in Rome? I'm trying to gauge how much time is needed for the connection in Ireland - we will have only 1 hour 45 minutes in Dublin airport.

Thanks in advance?

I am fairly certain that you will need to go through passport control upon arrival in Dublin. Cannot speak to whether you would in Rome though. Given no delays, 1.75 hours for the exchange should be plenty of time. I once had to do the same through Paris with 45 minutes, and it worked out fine (meaning I had 5 minutes to spare, but nonetheless, made it!).
