I have been told that the AC adapters you can purchase in the US are not compatible with electronic devices like cameras, battery chargers or iPods. Has anyone else had this experience? I tried years ago to use one with a hairdryer and it blew out, and ruined both the adapter and my hair dryer. However, I would think the hairdryer uses much more power than a charging small electronic device. Any info would be greatly appreciated -I leave next week!
All you should need is a plug adaptor. My sister had one in Europe last summer and had no problem charging her IPod in the UK, Czech Republic, Italy and France.
During my April trip to Italy, I charged a Canon camera battery and a Tomtom GPS using the two prong plug adapter that works in all of the countries in mainland Europe. I had no problems. Have a great trip!
Look at the cord/plug and see if it says just 110 volt or 110-240 volt. If its the latter, and my wall plug for my iPod does say 110-240 volt, then you just need the adaptor. If it only says 110 volt, then you need a converter and adaptor or converter/adaptor combo unit. All of the electronics we travel with are 110-240 volt (including a curling iron) so just the adaptor is fine. We also have a surge protector adaptor for the laptop if we have to take it with us.
