Going to sorrento next month and heard some reception problems in amalfi coast. I am setting up international plan for talk and Verizon rep showed me what to do to minimize data charges. Just wanted to hear from someone who has some previous experience, seems to be lot of confusion re: I phones and I pads(I have the original I pad)Thanks, steve

I have an iPhone 4S with Verizon and had no reception problems when I was in Positano in June.

steve, It would help to have some further details on the "reception problems" you mentioned. I'm currently travelling with an iPhone 4S (using a travel SIM with a UK phone number) and have noticed that reception seems to vary according to carrier in each location. I have the phone set to "Automatic" so it seems to choose the strongest signal and carrier in each location, but tends to prefer TIM. I suspect that your phone will also be set to "Automatic" when in Italy, so will likely operate the same way. You might check with Verizon on that point. Your Verizon phone has different network choices than the GSM models, so you'll have to choose the "Other than CDMA" menu option (I can't remember the exact wording - check with your carrier). Reception could be an issue if only using one carrier (ie: if you were to buy a single network phone when you arrive in Italy). Good luck and happy travels!

Thanks ken. I talked to Verizon and they said no problems with iPhone 4s steve
