Has anyone used iphone's GPS function in Italy? I'm thinking to sign up ATT's 20MB data roaming. Will try to use wifi for other iphone apps, but GPS is mobile so I figured either 20MB or 50MB should be enough. Anyone used the data roaming for GPS on iphone? how much data does it use, say for 8 days?
How does everyone look for directions to hotels, restaurants, or tourist attractions? Do most people use GPS, or just use paper map?
Can't help with the GPS question but certainly a paper pocket map is enough if you are simply sight-seeing within Rome. I used Streetwise Rome and it didn't let me down.
James,
I use a dedicated shirt-pocket size GPS unit which has a "pedestrian mode" Garmin Nuvi 370), should I need GPS capabilities while touring around cities.
However, in most cases I just use the one page paper Maps that are provided by many Hotels and Hostels. They're in colour and the major sites are well marked. They usually have a "pad" of Maps at the Front Desk, and just "tear off" a page for guests that want a Map to find their way around the major sites.
Happy travels!
