iPhone 4 for call and data in Italy

I'm bringing my unlocked iPhone 4 (will need a micro SIM Card) to Italy, for a little less than one month. Can I purchase a prepaid service that will let me use it for calls and data (internet and emails)? Will this also allow me to tether wirelessly to my iPad? Thanks.

Yes. Check out this message thread: Cell Phone, IPhone. This message is just one of many on this same subject in the past month or so.

Yes. Go to a TIM store and ask for an iPhone plan. They have a special pre-paid voice and data plan for smartphones. Don't know about tethering for the iPad. Assume that if it isn't available on your iPhone 4 today, don't expect it to magically work with an Italian SIM card. If you have a 3G iPad, you can also get a data-only pre-paid tablet SIM card and 2G of data for about 30 Euros. I have an iphone 3 and called the AT&T customer support about international data plans. She prorated the data plan for my two weeks I will be there and added the worldwide traveler feature prorated as well. This came to less than $20 and my calls are only 99c per minute and I have the maximum data even though it is only for two weeks! It sounds like you have more experience with this than I do, but for me, the convenience is worth it for my shorter trip. Happy travels!
