Is it possible to Skype with iPad in Italy? I've never Skyped before so I am clueless. I have AT&T plan. Thanks
Linda
All you need anywhere is the Skype app and a good wifi connection. Get the app and practice with it before you go. If you want to call phone numbers, buy Skype credit. Calls to computers are free.
I used Skype in Spain and France using my iPad. No problems. I agree it is a good idea to practice first. If you want to talk to anyone with an IPad or iPhone you could FaceTime.
Good point about Face Time. We use it a lot to keep up with our kids and grandkids.
If you intend to use your AT&T plan while in Europe, it's very important to research costs before you go. People have come home to bills of hundreds or thousands of dollars. WiFi is either free, or you know the cost before you log on. But 3G/4G signal through AT&T is charged by the kilobyte. If you don't get a travel plan, it costs a fortune. Note that WiFi works the same in Europe as it does here, and many (but certainly not all) hotels have free WiFi. Therefore, it's perfectly possible to use your iPad in Europe without using AT&T data at all.
Some iPads don't have any data plan connected with them. Mine happens to have a no contract plan with AT&T. I did not have data activated during my trip. It appears that if you buy an iPad AT an AT&T store they might bill monthly for data on your AT&T bill. If you have a contract be sure to turn the cellular data off in your settings.
Thanks. I see my daughter has been posting questions for me.
