Into Naples on a cruise ship (I know, I know) to take new travelers to Pompeii and a Naples locale

Hi

Looking for suggestions to get a small bunch of friends to Pompeii from Naples cruise ship dock -we do not want to go with cruise excursion. I am an experienced traveler but none of my friends are so I am staying away from Naples trains/buses (too much stress/trouble to wrangle tickets and all of them) Do you think a couple of cabs is the way to go? A tour guide to pick us up? If so, any suggestions on a Naples tour guide? Also one great locale in Naples to take them after Pompeii please? Going in late November 2022.

This is a little bit different than what you've asked for, as the 2nd destination after Pompeii is Sorrento + the Amalfi Coast, but these Shared Mondo Tours for Rick Steves come highly regarded by RS posters who've taken them so might work for you? The price is REALLY nice.

Take a look at "Sorrento, Pompeii and Amalfi Coast" tour from the Port of Naples.

Suggestion? If you have enough of you to fill an 6-8 person van, you might be able to work an itinerary with them from port to Pompeii and back to Naples versus going onwards to the coast, if you don't wish to do that. Whatever the case, they'll get you back to the ship in time as long as you can tell them what time you need to be there.

First of all, there is no need to apologize for being on a cruise. One of the great things about travel is that there are many ways to do it and most of them are fun!

This company, Mondo Tours has been highly recommended. I would check them out.

edited to say: It looks like Kathy and I were thinking the same thing at the same time :)

We used Mondo Tours for Pompeii. Tour guide was OK but not excellent. I wrote the company after wards to complain and received a nice apology, reply.

Having done a shore excursion out of Napoli, I'd vote for a Pompeii and Sorrento tour. There are some that include the Amalfi coast, but to me they seemed rushed and exhausting. You should definitely consider a private tour, which will allow you to customize and by splitting the cost, is fairly economical. I have always been pleased with the service RomeCabs by Stefano has provided.

If yours is a hardy group, you could also combine the Mondo walking tour of Pompeii (2 hours) with the same company's 3-hour walking tour of Naples. However, you'd be responsible for getting yourselves to Pompeii, which might mean the Circumvesuviana. (Full discosure: I've taken neither tour, nor have I ridden the Circumvesuiana.)
