Into Milan and out of Paris

Hello all!

I am traveling to Europe for the first time in mid-July and I'm flying into Milan and out of Paris. I would like to visit parts of Italy, Switzerland and possibly Belgium while making my way toward Paris. I will be arriving July 12th and departing July 21st. Any recommendations on where to go and thoughts on how to get there would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance!!

I would get some route ideas from Rick's 2-week Europe tours. You can see a little more info about those destinations at http://www.ricksteves.com/europe, and full details for most of the same places in his Best of Europe book.

  • TGV trains from Switzerland, e.g, Basel to Paris, can sell out and any low fares you see now have limited seats available. As soon as you reserve a Paris hotel, do also reserve that train.

  • Belgium probably won't be in the plan, since the other three countries have plenty to see in two weeks.

  • If you start at Milan and work your way south to Rome, then you might fly from there to Zurich (try www.skyscanner.com).

  • There are overnight train options between Roma and Milan or Rome and Venice (may arrive pretty early morning), but not between Italy and Switzerland.
