NO!! You will need at least one overnight if not two. You can do Pompeii and the archeological museums in a day or the Blue grotto and Capri in a day (not from Rome though) but there is no way to see all four areas in one day, especially coming from Rome. Donna

sue, I definitelly agree with "NO", unless you've invented a "beam me up Scotty" machine. While the distances between those locations are not huge, the transportation to cover that distance will take considerable time. Keep in mind that you'll be subject to boat schedules to and from Capri, travel on the Circumvesuviana and on the trains back and forth to Rome. You could certainly take one of the Bus tours from Rome to Capri and back, but even that's a long day and doesn't provide much more than a "quick glimpse" of the island. There are also Bus tours to Pompeii and Naples, but trying to fit all of those locations into one day is not realistically possible. My suggestion would be to schedule at least two (and preferably more) nights in Sorrento, and use that as a "home base" for visiting the locations you mentioned. Good luck and happy travels!

Absolutely not. I cannot believe that this is a serious question. In fact you could not do half of what you suggest in a day. You really need to look at a map and understand the distances and the activities. Just Naples and Pompeii is one long day from Rome.

Sue, good for you for asking! Too many people try to cram WAAAY to much stuff into their itinerary. It's smart of you to say "Hang on a minute. This seems like a lot." There is a good resource in this section of the Helpline called How much time to get there that you might want to spend some time checking out. Happy travels.

I agree, Sue, good question if you've not tried this trip before. But it's quite a lot. If you spend two days in Sorrento, you can go to Capri and perhaps the Amalfi Coast in one day and save Naples/Pompeii for the next day and then take a fast train back to Rome. That's only one overnight in Sorrento. Or reverse the order, take the fast train from Rome to Naples, see the Museum, go to Pompeii, and then on to Sorrento. The next day to Capri and the Amalfi Coast. There's an Emerald Grotto near Amalfi. Keep in mind that sometimes the boats to the grottoes have to wait for the right water depth to enter.
