Internet for laptop?

I'll be in Sardinia and Tuscany for a month and I will need internet for my laptop. Does anybody know the best way to get temporary mobile internet in Italy? Which company is the best? I want a usb stick or a card for my usb stick.

Are you asking about 3-G,4-G access? Free wifi is wide spread. Often you hotel will provide access and it easily found in many restaurants like McDonald sometimes for a small fee.

If you have a reasonably high-end smartphone, such as an IPhone 4 or 4S, it can serve as your mobile wifi hotspot. Just check your smartphone's manual to see if it has that feature.

TIM (one of the Italian phone companies) has been offering internet USB sticks along with data plans for pretty reasonable amounts of money - no contract plans so you don't have to sign up for a long time. The offers change all the time - I think there is currently a plan where the USB key is 9 euro and then an additional 10 euro for a month for data. Since the offers change all the time, you should go to a TIM store when you get to Italy and see what's on offer. I got an internet USB key for 19 euro and a rechargeable data plan for 10 euro a month when I was in Italy in June. But as I said, the plans change all the time so you need to check when you are there. The TIM internet site is www.tim.it but it is only in Italian.

TIM, Fastweb, Wind: All offer USB sticks and as mentioned above, the offers change all the time and are quite competitive.

Great. That is what I wanted to hear. Now, last question. I have a stick already that I use here in Luxembourg. Do you know if any of those companies will let me use the stick I have? A lot of the companies--but not all--like to play the proprietary game and require you buy their stick. If we could just buy the card, that would be great.
