Internet access in ROME?

I am going to Rome with a group of friends for two weeks around Thanksgiving. We were discussing where to get internet access in Rome because the place we are staying does not have internet. We have some Roman friends, but they don't know. Any ideas?

Not to worry, there is plenty of Internet access throughout Rome in internet cafes. Ask your hotel to recommend one near you location. Heads up: the Italian keyboard layout is a bit different than ours, only a few keys are different but it DOES slow down your keyboarding.

they are everywhere! Even in smaller towns. You won't have any trouble finding them, and the guidebook lists a few. Ask at a TI or your hotel where you can go. In Siena (much smaller than Rome) there were two on the street where our hotel was. They will ask for picture ID and write down your passport number. We found places everywhere and it cost usually 1.50 euro for 15 minutes.
and hey, you are on vacation so don't spend too much time at the computer! you can do that when you get home!

Yes, internet cafes are all over. You should have no problems finding a place to connect.

there were more internet cafes then working pay phones!
btw: don't know if you ever heard of "skype"..i didn't until i was in florence..for i think 10 bucks to sign up, you can use this web program to call anyone. the calls per min. to the US is very low..like 3 cents/min.
and most cafes provide head phones.the sound quality sometimes was poor, but after the rip off of phone cards[some didn't work], and the frustrating business of trying to find a working pay phone booth, made this for me a cool deal.

My husband walked and used the internet cafe near our hotel 3 days while in Rome. Just ask your hotel where the closest one is. We had our laptop with us, so he just put their wire into out lap top and went on.

Thank you all for the advice! I appreciate it. I feel better now. Although, we are not staying at a hotel, we are staying with some Roman friends in their apartment, and they don't know where any internet cafes are. So we can't ask our hotel where the nearest is. But you think we will still not have any trouble finding one? I guess we can ask the TI.

Yes, ask the TI. You can also click on Favorite Links (above on this webpage), then scroll down to E-mails, Blogs & Technology for websites that list cybercafes in Europe.

Tegan,

They are everywhere, even where there are no hotels. We stayed in an apartment near Cornelia station and saw not a single hotel but we found two internet places, one for 2€ per hour and one for 1.5€ - the cheapest rates we found in all of Italy.

You are better off finding ones near where you are staying as it is likely they are cheaper if you are not near hotels.
