Is an international drivers license required to drive in Italy?
Yes it is
International Driving Permit (IDP)
Get at your local AAA
It is the law in Italy to have a translation of your driver's license into Italian. You must carry your license and the IDP with you.
Itβs called a permit rather than a license, and you can get it at AAA.
There is a non-official product out there that is called the ID License, but it's not the same thing. And unfortunately a lot of people and websites use the terms interchangeably.
should the webmaster have an alarm sound at HQ whenever someone posts this question?

Maybe that explains the pillar of smoke and strange orange glow I see to the southwest. ??
Maybe the webmaster could put this post of mine from some years ago somewhere accessible for all. It is still valid, except for the minimum fine, which has increased by β¬8 (from β¬400 to β¬408) since the time of that posting.
