I am interested in buying interlocking luggage for this trip, the kind that fit together so you only have to pull one set of wheels? Last year I tried to stack my luggage, tying it with twine, and it worked for awhile but fell apart in Iceland, bugging me, as I was trying to catch a bus to the rental car office. Does anyone know of a good brand that locks easily and isn't hard to pull? Some of my sunglasses got broken last year in my soft-sided luggage, so I'm considering the aluminum type. Some of it is quite pretty with Parisien scenes and such. I'm wondering whether there might be a brand with a Rome theme-- Colosseum or something? Thanks for your help. If there is anything you don't like about the interlocking luggage or things I should watch out for when purchasing such, I'd appreciate your feedback. My sister used a large suitcase from her son's new interlocking luggage last year. He had purchased it at Costco. The zipper fell apart. They returned it for him, upgrading him to larger interlocking luggage, but she doesn't want to take his on our trip this spring.
Any kind of "themes" with luggage (for adults) are tough because they're too limiting and most companies want a clean look that will appeal to a larger swath of people. I don't know where you'll find something as specific as the Colosseum, even on hard-sided luggage. As far as interlocking, I've seen multiple pieces of luggage from a single collection where the smaller bag is "attached" to the larger one just using a special strap with a buckle that could be adjusted/tightened. That strap typically comes with the luggage so that different pieces can be "stacked" more efficiently. Also, I don't think you need to necessarily get aluminum luggage only because you had a break of sunglasses - if they were in a hard case or wrapped very carefully, it probably wouldn't have happened (or, alternatively, always carry glasses in your purse instead).
My wife and I each have 21" Samsonite spinner (4-wheels) suitcases with telescopic handles. These bags are at the max size of carry-on, but overseas we check them through. She carries a Vera Bradley soft bag that she wraps its handle around & through the telescopic handle of the suitcase and the bag sits on top. I have a CPAP bag with a Velcro sleeve/ribbon that I slide my telescopic handle through and that sits snugly on top, either on 4 wheels or two for cobblestones. Just in case we bring a couple of elastic hook bungee cords. That's how we do it.
Or you can buy a luggage bungee if your smaller bag doesn’t have a sleeve that goes over the
Telescopic handle of your larger wheeled bag.
We also have soft-sided luggage with telescoping handles, and my carryon (doesn't match the large bag) has both a shoulder strap and hand-carry handles. I just slip the hand-carry handles over the telescoping handle and it stays put pretty well.
We've had the crap beaten out of our Travel Pro soft-sided bags for 11 years and never had anything in them broken, even when TSA has made a mess of the packing job. Anything on the fragile side, like my Canon G15, goes in my carryon, and my husband takes his ipad and spare eyeglasses (in a protective case) in his.
Not absolutely sure what you mean by Interlocking luggage. But it sounds like a lot of luggage. On this site, most are going to recommend a single bag with a modest day bag. The bag can be strapped to a rolling bag. Not sure how luggage you
