We have a couple extra nights after our three in Venice. We fly out of the Venice airport so need to stay in the area. Any suggestions about where we might stay or spend our time? We've heard that Treviso might be nice. Thanks!
I'm guessing that you will be taking the train. I've never heard much about Treviso other than it has the Ryan Air airport. I would consider Padova. It is a 40 or so minute train ride from Venice Mestre. Check the train scheduels first to make sure you can get from where ever you stay to get back to the airport in time for your flight.
There are some agriturismos in failry near to Marco Polo Airport. I've only passed them on the way to the beach so I can't vouch for any of them, but staying there could be a fun way to end a vacation. Here is a website where you can search for places. It would be worth while to rent a car for 2 days so you can get to the farm and the hotel with little problems.
good luck!
Vicenza is about an hour away, far cheaper and a destination in its own right. It was home to Palladio, the famous architect ( Palladian windows) and has some really interesting sites both within the city and nearby. Dunno if they are still operating, but we recommend Bob & Jenny's B&B
Chioggia is a great little town and Sottomarina (only a short bus ride across a causeway) has a great beach. No train service but you can take a bus and ferry from Venice to Chioggia - about an hour trip. The bus goes across the Lido, then a ferry to Pellestrina, another bus across Pellestrina, and finally another ferry to Chioggia.
