Intercity trains & rome pass

Hello,

Can you pls confirm following?

I've read that intercity trains between Rome-Florence OR Florence-Venice work like airplane tickets & you should book in advance for the lowest price - Is that right?

Now, my question abt metro/bus pass in Rome - Does Rome have a day pass which covers commute to/from airport/Termini as well as local commute by bus or metro - I know lot of big european cities have such pass - I was not sure abt Rome.

Also, is there a discounted ticket pass (like Citypass in US) which covers all top attractions in Rome?

Thanks,
Ajit

as well as local commute by bus or metro -

Hi Johny -
As far as I know, the tourist transport passes do not cover journeys to/from Fiumicino airport. Here's what's available:
https://www.atac.roma.it/en/tickets-and-passes

I'll mention that we've very rarely needed to use public transit it in Rome - it's more fun and sometimes even faster to walk - so we've tended to buy a few single-journey BIT tickets and tuck them away for if we should want to hop a metro or urban train (have never used the city buses).

This is the tourist pass for attractions in Rome. There are two versions: 48 hour and 72 hour. The first only provides 'free' entry to one attraction, and the other provides for two 'free' entries. You also are required to make advance, timed-entry reservations if using the pass for certain attractions such as the Colossseum and Galleria Borghese so read the fine print and FAQ section carefully. Reductions to other attractions can be small. It does not cover anything at the Vatican; it does cover use of city public transit although not to/from Fiumicino.

The Fiumicino airport website does a good job of providing the options for transport to Rome. Yes, you have to click each one as there are too many for an "overview" but that's not difficult. As well, under the FAQs, the Roma Pass does clearly state that it doesn't cover transport into the city.

Under "What to know about the Cards" point 1.2: https://www.romapass.it/en/FAQ/

"The Cards do not cover transport to and from Fiumicino airport (Leonardo Express train, FL1 train, local urban services)."

Risk scams? Best not to cause our poster overblown alarm! Many thousands of visitors make it into the city without issue by assorted means: private driver; airport coach, Fiumicino Express, official taxi, etc. I'll disagree with another recommendation in the post but don't wish to draw attention to it.
