I am trying to purchase a ticket on-line for an intercity train from Rome (Termini) to Naples (Centrale) for Monday 5/19. The online process indicates I must sign in or register however the registration screen does not include United States in the drop-down box.
Has anyone had similar trouble? Can you help?
Thanks
Some people in this Italy forum have had similar trouble and others have not; there are many postings. I don't know whether that's related to choosing an InterCity train instead of a faster one. I see that advance-discount fares are already sold out for the InterCity trains, so you can buy a ticket in the station for the 24.5 euros that you see at www.trenitalia.com. Or, I see some for $37 at http://ricksteves.raileurope.com/us/rail/point_to_point/triprequest.htm. Worst case scenario, if your preferred train sells out, is that you have to take a different, possibly more expensive departure.
You don't have to register to buy on-line for trains except for regional trains, once you select which train you want, in the middle of the next page below the class, carriage, and seat number, you can click on "non registered buyer" where you do enter name, email and contact number. I have bought tickets on-line without registering. I used my gmail account and received my email confirmation and a PDF with the PNR confirmation fairly quickly.
I went to Trentalia and was able to get to the entering of credit card data for the 15th of May.
Also, United States in Italian is "Stati Uniti " which may help you to register if you if you are unable to continue as a non registered buyer.
I could be wrong but its there when I look: Stati Uniti d'America.
Finding the Italian spelling for the United States won't help you to register either. They seem to want your birth country and address to be in Italy. What many do is to provide the address of their hotel. You can also purchase as a non-registered person. Here's how you do it.
1) First, contact your credit card people to let them know that you are going to make an online
international purchase. This will avoid a few problems.
2) Under Passengers, type in your name and surname. That's it. Nothing else on that line of boxes.
3) Under Contract-Buyer, select Non-Registered User and fill in all five fields.
4) Select your payment method.
5) Accept the General Transportation Condition.
6) Select Continue and make your purchase.
The website seems to be confused with your email address and phone number in two different locations on the same page. Just put it where described in item #3 above.
Very helpful. Thanks to all.
