Input on itinerary: Venice-Vernazza-Florence-Rome

I've got 11 nights in Italy and was pretty set on these cities to sleep in (with some day trips along the way) venice- 3 nights Cinque Terre - 2 nights Florence - 3 nights Rome - 3 nights
hotels are booked, but now that I'm looking into travel between the cities I'm starting to re-think, especially the logistics of Venice to cinque- wondering if should do Venice-Florence-Cinque instead? And do 2 nights Venice and 4 in Florence instead? (since more possible day trips from latter). Would love to also see Pisa, Siena, Assisi, and Orvieto along the way but probably too ambitious to see them all. Will be traveling with 17 month old so don't really want to do any 1 night stays to minimize hotel changes. thoughts?

Jennifer, Travelling Venice > Florence > Cinque Terre > Rome is a more efficient route, and minimizes travel times to some extent. There are a few direct trains each day from La Spezia Centrale to Rome with a travel time of about 3H:45M, so it's an easy trip. Given that your hotels are booked, will it be difficult to alter the reservations? My suggestion would be 2 nights in Venice and 4 nights in Florence, mainly because of the day trip options that you mentioned. You won't be able to get to all of them, but a day trip to Siena (by Bus) would be worthwhile. Orvieto is not really feasible as a day trip from Florence (it would be easier done as a day trip from Rome). Happy travels!

Thank you for the advice, Ken! My trip is a little over a month away, so I'm going to try and switch up the route/ # of nights as you suggested and keep my fingers crossed on changing hotel dates. Sounds like it would be more efficient - thanks so much for your help!
