Information about museums in Villa Borghese

We shall be in Rome for 3 nights in the middle of October. This time we want to make sure we have a visit to Villa Borghese.I was thinking of reserving online for one of the museums but don't know enough about them to choose which one we would enjoy the most. My husband isn't the type to spend all day in museums so I want to choose one that would be the most interesting for us. Does anyone have any advice.?

The Borghese gallery is very popular and is a wonderful place to visit. You must make a reservation in advance if you wish to visit because they limit the number of people allowed inside.. You are limited to two hours inside, after which, they kick you out. You can make a reservation or get information on the gallery at: http://www.ticketeria.it/ticketeria/borghese-regolamento-eng.asp Donna

Thanks to everyone for the recommendations. the Galleria Boghese it is!. And I was hoping we could walk around and enjoy the park and woodlands. It sounds wonderful I will look into the Roma Pass. What else does this cover you for. I have a European passport but my husband is American. Thanks

Definitely Galleria Borghese, and get ticket reservations ahead of time. The other museums on the grounds of Villa Borghese are interesting but don't have the requirements of getting tickets in advance. You can check their web pages to see what they contain. The Villa is a great place to walk around, and the other museums are well marked.

Definitely the Galleria Borghese. You're only allowed in for two hours and it is beautiful. You can cover everything in the two hours. If you have the Roma Pass, you can use it for the entrance fee to the Borghese. You will have to make reservations by calling them. The number is 011-39-063-2810. You should have your date and time ready when you call. There is an English speaking operator. Just tell her you want to use the Roma Pass. You will not be charged anything at that time. You will get a reservation number. I just did this yesterday. It was pretty easy.

Another big vote for the Borghese. I originally didn't think I wanted to go and my husband dragged me up there and I thank him to this day! We made online reservations which I strongly recommend because you will be able to get the time you want. Don't let the 2 hour time limit put you off as it's just about the right length of time. They have wisely limited the number of art pieces there so you won't be faced with wall to wall masterpieces that you often find in other Italian museums. Go!

I finally got to the Borghese last fall on my fourth trip to Rome. The park, museum, and gardens were like a "vacation within my vacation." In crowded, noisy Rome, the open space and woodsy area was a blessing. I recommend a trip there even without seeing the museum.

Check out the romapass website for a full list of sites covered by the pass. You don't have to have a specific passport to use it. Donna

I have checked out the roma pass web site but I am still not sure that I would benefit from it as I am over 65 and that along with my British passport should get me into most museums free or with a very reduced price. It might be worth me buying a transportation pass. Are there any Brits who are over 65 with experience with any of these passes. Should I get one.?
This is about our 4th or 5th visit to Rome and so we have been to many of the sites.

If you have an EU passport you won't really need the romapass. You might just want to get a transport pass if you think you'll use the buses, trams or metro. Donna

Just returned August 3rd and after arriving in Rome, dropped the luggage with a copy of our reservations headed for the Borghese Museum. I cannot stress enough go now and get the RS book for Rome. It is spot on for all the museum suggestions. We booked 7 days before leaving for the museum tickets. The web site is easy to navigate and also provides the amount of tickets per entry time left, so you can plan accordingly. Upon arrival, we went to the self service kiosk and printed out our tickets and checked our purses, bags. Again we followed RS suggestions for getting there, the visit and brought the book in with us, read as we went along as it made our first visit to Rome much more memorable as you can get a feel for the reason for all the Bernini fountains, the catholic church influence and such. So two hours is good for those who don't want to spend alot of time in a museum, but again read along and have your husband help find the sculptures like goat legs on the litttle boy, which Bernini did at age 14. Great museum

BTW - you don't have to use the Roma Pass to book via phone.
