Hello fellow travelers - We are traveling from Bari on Sept. 30 up to Lake Como, arriving on Oct. 3. We would like to stay somewhere in between for those 3 nights. We've been to Rome, Florence, Venice, Amalfi and Corniglia. Looking at Genoa, Bologna, San Marino, Ravenna --- any recommendations you all could share? We will visit Milan while in Como.
We will not have a car - so like to stay in towns where we can walk and enjoy the local atmosphere -- food, wine, people, where to stay?
Thanks for any help.
Bologna with a day trip to Ravenna
Bologna is a great transportation hub
It depends on your interests. It's a 1000km (600 miles) drive and there are many places along the route, so the choices are really endless.
If you are interested in beautiful coastal areas, you can look at Sirolo, a small village just south of Ancona. From there you can take day trips to Frasassi Grottoes, Corinaldo, Camerino, even Macerata, just to name some.
Pesaro could be a good base to see several places, like Urbino, Gradara, etc.
More to the south, you may want to look at San Benedetto del Tronto. Ascoli Piceno would be a nice day trip from there.
Just noted you don't have car.
Then Pesaro it is a good stop for Marche since the Frecciarossa stops there and Urbino is a short bus ride away.
