hello all
will be spending 7 days in venice october 2010 before a greek isles cruise. a customer told me that i should go to this lake to see it's beauty and small towns. we had planned a day trip to verona but may do an overniter near the lake. saw a small town at southern tip of lake: peschiera del garda. any suggestions as to what train to take from venice and any other town to stay the nite? she told me we could ride a ferry around or across lake. will be doing more research and hoping someone here can help me along. thanks for any and all your ideas.

There is direct train service between Venice and Peschiera del Garda: take any regionale ("R") train, or any ES-City train which actually stops at Peschiera. From Peschiera, you can take ferries to many towns along the Lake, all the way to Riva del Garda to the north.

Don't miss the Lago di Garda(by the way it's spelled lago).Can't give you any advise how to get there,but get there and enjoy that beautyful area.Nearby is a park called GARDALAND,a pretty good imitation of Disney parks.I recomend staying in Sirmione.It's the biggest town and more touristy than the rest(more choicesfor food and accommodations).We drove around the lake and ended up in Sirmione evening time.Breathtaking area.Will be in Italy around Chrismass,and back to visit that area again.For more info go to www.lagodigarda.it.
