What is you idea of inexpensive?
Do you have a preferred location?
The advice on this board is great but, until you get some recommendations (people will need more information from you to be able to help), you can use www.venere.com. I trust the reviews as you are getting them from people that actually stayed at the subject property AND it is very easy to search by area, price, star rating etc. Check it out
The Hotel Santa Lucia is a very inexpensive but clean and spacious hotel near the train station. Of all the very budget hotels I've stayed in in Venice, it's the best.
Rick Steves writes a well researched and annually vetted guidebook on Venice listing many hotels and other places to stay in various areas of Venice, with good ideas of prices and, for many of them, discounts available for showing his book on check in.
Thank you all. We have just booked our room at the Hotel St. Lucia in Venice.
Define inexpensive as this means different to different people. Also, keep in mind that everything is more expensive in Venice. That said, we like to stay at the Hotel Abbazia on a quiet calle (alley) in Canneregio section about 10 minutes from the Santa Lucia train station in Venice. You might also check with venere.com to find many ions, neighborhoods, pricing, map locations, and client reviews from people who have actually stayed there. In fact, they must have stayed there in order to post a comment. Buon viaggio,
The Hotel Santa Lucia is a good inexpensive bet near the train station. Well-kept and there's the bonus of airconditioning in summer. The walls are a little thin, though. The area around the station isn't as lovely as other areas of Venice, but it's convenient. Enjoy Venice!
Do not stay at Alloggi Barbaria, it's in Ricks books but terrible. We left after 1 night.
What was terrible about Allogi Barbaria? It gets an 8.6 out of 10 on venere.com, which contains reviews only by people who definitely stayed there.
I'm wondering the same thing, Aly. Is that why you disliked Venice (your other post)? Or is there something else that's the reason?
