Inexpensive Internet connection for web book

Next year I want to take my web book to Italy and connect with wi-fi from anywhere. I do not want to use Verizon. Any suggestions?

Most hotels offer WiFi....some charge a fee, others offer it for free. Most all McDonald's and Starbucks will give you 30 minutes of free WiFi with a purchase, reasonable rates after that.

There are NO Starbucks in Italy. In the nearly 7 years I've lived here I've never seen one. Not even at the Olympics, Florence, Venice or Rome.

Most telecom companies (TIM, Vodafone, Tre, etc.) are offering what they call internet "keys" here now - USB wireless modems. The problem is that they want 2 or 3 year plans. I just saw one in the TIM shop for 10 euro a month - but the key is 89 euro and the plan is 2 years...

Check these for what is available:

Your best bet is probably going to be free WiFi if you want cheap - you will find open networks in a lot of places - bars, libraries, in the street :)

Good luck!

The Italy blogs dealing with mobile internet seem to be saying that mobile broadband internet in Italy is sort of spotty and a waste of money.
You asked about, "Connect with Wi-Fi from anywhere," so I'm assuming you mean mobile cell.
Wi-fi to Wi-fi free hotspots, ie, the McDonald's option, may be your best option less you want to get it very complicated and buy into a plan.

Hi Francis - what blogs are you reading? I have been using a USB key from Vodafone and it works really well wherever I have been - even on a boat around Elba!
