Inexpensive Hotel near Milan Malpensa airport

We are coming from Lucca for a 12:50pm flight and think we should come to Milan the night before so as not to miss our flight. Can anyone recommend an inexpensive hotel for a family of 5 for one night?

It is my understanding that all of the hotels around the airport are pretty expensive -- no experience. With a 12"50 departure you could easily stay in the city and still get to the airport with adequate time. I have stay in several very reasonable hotels around the Central Train station which is one hour via shuttle from the station. The other train station has a 30 minute train to the airport. I don't know which train station you would use for Lucca.

I second what Kent said. We found a cheap flight to Milan but quickly decided against buying when the least expensive hotel was over 100 euros.

Could you stay somewhere in central Milan? The airport express train departs from Nord/Cadorna station and as long as you're near there you should be able to get to the airport with plenty of time to spare.

If nothing else, there's a larger variety of hotels to choose from in central Milan... and it's not out in the sticks.

Problem solved. We rented a car in Lucca for the weekend so will drive ourselves to the airport early Sunday morning, and get to tour Tuscany on our last day. Thank you for the replies. (This message board is the best!)

We had reservations at a wonderful B&B near Malpensa but had to cancel due to a flight change.

The name of the place is: www.icastagni-bb.it

A double room was 80 euro, includes breakfast and free shuttle from 6 AM-12 PM. While only 5 miles from Malpensa the place is set in a woodland area. The closest train station is Gallarate and the owner said he would have picked us up when we arrived.

There is a review for this B&B at www.slowtalk.com

Our only regret is that we couldn't have gone there.
