We liked Allogia Alla Scala- it was near Rialto Bridge and also close to St Marks Square. We stayed there in 2003 and 2008- last year it was 85 euros a night for 2 if you paid cash. At that price you don't get luxury, but it was clean and comfortable and we were happy with it. It gets pretty good reviews on trip advisor. Here is the web site: http://www.alloggiallascala.com/eng/home.htm One of the rooms has a canal view (noisy, but fun) We had it in 2003, but I let my sister and her husband have it in 2008.

I've stayed at Fondazione Forestia Levi 3 times and am staying again in May. It's in the San Marco "quartieri" near the Accademia bridge. It's location is fabulous, especially for the price. Doubles were approx. 90 euros. I have a quad this time for 140 euros. The rooms are private but look like college dorms. The bathrooms are large for Italy standards. There website is www.fondazionelevi.org, and you can email them at foresteria@libero.it. You can also book the room through www.itwg.com. Pictures are on both sites and are accurate. Have a great trip.

Alan,

You might try Albergo Doni. It's listed in Rick's book and is close to Piazza San Marco, and is also close the a Vaporetto stop.

Good luck and happy travels!

We are traveling to Venice in September and I was able to find a B&B near St. Marks Square through traveler's reviews on Tripadvisor. It's called Ai Tagliapietra B&B.

The owner is Lorenzo...he was very quick to get back to emails and seems very friendly and was very helpful. We are paying 90 euros per night (which includes breakfast). We are very excited to stay there!

Good luck!

I got a wonderful room at the San Paolo B&B (so long as you are willing to stay at a place with a shared bathroom). The room was beautiful, it included breakfast in your room, and the hosts were lovely. They even had copies of Rick Steves' guide books on hand for consultation. It is only a five-minute walk from the Ponte Rialto and I managed to get it for around 69 euros per night for two in August.

Their website is http://www.bedandbreakfastsanpaolo.net/eng_index.htm but ironically I got a better rate when I booked it through http://www.hostels.com

Best of luck!
