inexpensive but safe hotels in florence

My daughter and her friend need an inexpensive, but safe, hotel to stay in for one night in Florence. Any suggestions? They will be there June 1.

Every hotel in Florence is safe and Florence is very safe. Price is determined by hotel amenities and location (historical center tends to be more expensive than outside of it). Please define inexpensive in Euro. A double room in the city center is unlikely to be under 80 euro, even at the cheapest B&B, especially in June.

Anne, Take a look at Hostel Archi Rossi. They have private rooms (in the Annex), in addition to dorms. That might fit your defininition of inexpensive, and it is definitely safe.

Sharon, can they leave their luggage there all day? they will just be coming into Italy for study abroad program and can't go to host family until next day. Roberto I guess I'm looking for something in $120 (US) and less range since they only need it for one night. Don't need anything fancy just somewhere they can leave their luggage, explore around some, and sleep off jet lag

Anne, We stayed in a private room in the Annex, so were the only ones in there. Most hostels have some way to secure luggage.

In Oct. 2011 my sister, niece and I stayed 2 nights at Hotel Accademia, www.hotelaccademiafirenze.com (in R.S. bk)which is between the train station and Duomo and super easy walk from the train station and just steps from the Medici Chapel. Walking directions from train station were on their website. We had a huge triple with bathroom and I can't recall what we paid (included breakfast)but then prices will vary according to time of the year. They were very nice and held our luggage for us all day Sunday as our train back to Rome wasn't until 7:30 pm or so. My niece was in Rome for the semester on a study abroad and we took the train to Florence for a wkend while we were visiting her. Have been to Florence a number of times and have never felt unsafe there.

Thanks Janet! I've been emailing with Thea at the hotel you suggested. Have found out June is not the time to travel cheaply haha. The place looks great and location looks even better. I think it will be great for the girls. Thanks so much to everyone for your advice. It's so nice to be able to turn to the experts!
