Incredible airfares to Italy and Europe today

Still finding it hard to believe but just booked a flight thru Expedia today to Rome, from San Diego in late April for $420.00. I checked just over a week ago and it was around $1200.00. Still in shock ! I checked for flights to Milan as well and they seem to be in the same range. Jump on it if you are itching to get back to Italy next year.

dfaye76: isn't this incredible??!! I'm almost thinking of booking another flight for September as well. Not sure we will ever see prices this low again. I can barely fly to Reno from San Diego for these prices !

Thinking about it too. No good prices from LAX but there $409 prices from SFO to Milan and Rome until the middle of May. May have to rethink our late spring Ireland trip.

DH says these fares are also good to Stuttgart, an airport we've never used before, we've only flown in to Berlin, Munich, Düsseldorf and Köln. This works from both the Bay Area and LA.

Vienna for $487.

Dublin $417. Bingo!

Nice job Darrell! You might also post under General Europe to let more west coast people know. Last month the AA sale only lasted 48h.

Wow. Great fares to Berlin and Brussels on Delta too, even from Austin, TX.

Wish I could book a trip but we are just about to depart on our first trip to Europe in two weeks and it seems a bit premature to plan another one for spring!

Sarah_atx: you'll be so anxious to go back to Europe after your December trip, you might as well book it now !

I just booked RT Seattle to Rome for late September for $462. I'm completely amazed! Booked thru KLM. Flights are code share on Delta, but KLM fares were just as low. Normally I fly out of Vancouver, but this time Seattle was less.

Just booked roundtrip from Salt Lake City to Madrid in March for $405 and roundtrip from Salt Lake City to Brussels in April for $406 both on Delta!!! These are incredible prices out of SLC, so am super excited to take advantage of it!

Priscilla, consider other origins and/or other destinations. Someone mentioned finding nothing useful from LA but good stuff from SFO. You just never know. It's very specific to where you're starting from, where you want to go, and in some cases when you want to travel. It's so screwy right now that I wouldn't be surprised to see Frankfurt at $400 and Munich at $940. (I'm just making those numbers up.)

Tell us what you're looking for and perhaps someone will have a good suggestion for you.

We just booked for dates in June, SFO to DUB for $445 pp rt. We booked through Air France. Priscilla when and where are you hoping to go, I'll look too.

My son was planning on another trip in 2018 but $400 rt from GEG to AMS in Sep 2017 changed that plan.

Life is uncertain - eat dessert first and buy airline tickets when the price is irresistible. Thought the prices I got for Vienna in March were great -- but couldn't resist Italy in May at less than $500 from SFO.

I'm bumping this back up to the top as there are still good fares this morning. The only negative thing I saw was on Flyertalk where they were reporting that the long haul flight legs are on 3-4-3 configured planes (ugh) and of course for that crowd they are all yammering about not getting their miles for this class of ticket. BTW last night when we booked our tickets I saw that Premium Economy was $890 O/W as opposed to economy for $212 O/W which is what we chose (booked through Air France with a layover at CDG).

I looked at Expedia and just put a potential date into R/T to Rome from Boston
Showed great prices on American Airlines, nothing good on Delta at least for these dates BUT
look at the message when I continued toward the purchase, this is the R/T fare for 1 ticket

"Price Change
Your ticket price changed from $439.16 to $829.16. The airline could not confirm the original price due to pricing or availability changes that occurred after we posted the latest prices on our site. Continue booking or look for a different flight."

I tried selecting a slightly different flight with a cost the same or plus $20 and received a similar price change message
I have not used Expedia before and honestly after this experience not sure I will ever go back to their site.
If you start a new search you still see these $400 R/T's as available but try to buy them and they double in price.

Thanks so much for the alert! I just booked Pittsburgh to Edinburgh for September for $487 (1 stop)! We elected to pay an extra $99pp for extra legroom for the transatlantic flights which added $400 to the total cost. (I could pass on this, but my husband is tall and really needs it.) Great deal!

We bought tickets to Venice on September 1 for 1420 rt for two. From SFO to Vce on June 17, 2017. That was through Expedia on American. You just have to keep checking various websites all the time. You never know what will happen. We weren't planning to go till 2018. Keep on traveling

Thank you for this posting alert! I was able to secure two roundtrip tickets, Tucson to Rome, in September, 2017, for $422 each. Unfreakinbelievable! One stop flights with fairly short 2 hr layovers in Atlanta. Nice!

Thank you so much for posting this! I just booked round trip tickets From St. Louis to Frankfurt for next spring for $466! Considering last year my tickets to Europe were $1225 and I don't remember last time I paid under $1000, this is great!

Thank you! Thank you for posting! I just scored a Delta (on Delta website) roundtrip New Orleans-Rome; Venice-New Orleans ticket for September 2017 for $405.06 total, including taxes and fees!!!! Great routing; one stop each way. Unbelievable!!! Have to fly out and back on Tuesdays to get this fare, but WOW! Haven't seen fares like this to Western Europe for - forever?? I splurged on Delta "comfort" seating for a little over $100 for each of the transatlantic flight segments.

We're flying to Venice on May 17, and I felt pretty good about locking in at $960 several months ago. I've been checking periodically, more for future reference, and fares have been running a bit less than I paid, but not enough to make me feel stupid. Fares for our dates remain in the $800-$900 range today.

Just for grins, though, I plugged in dates one week earlier -- flying on May 10 instead of the 17th. Lo and behold, fares are just over $400, as people have been posting here.

I would have liked to take our RS tour earlier in May, but it just wasn't going to work with our college student's schedule, so May 17 it is. Still no regrets about locking in at under $1,000, but I admit to feeling a bit wistful seeing these amazing fares today. Sigh.

Thanks Acraven & Mona for offering to help me find a flight!

I did finally find the great deals last night.
I think the trouble was that I was looking for early June, but all the amazing prices seem to be only till mid- May.
I don't have any firm plans yet, but would love to go back to Italy, Spain or France.
I live on the West Coast & LAX is closest to me but I'm willing to travel to another airport.

Thanks Darell for this post!

I want to thank the OP. I just booked Minneapolis to Berlin, and coming back from Bucharest for $444.06 per person on Expedia. Delta was not showing the low prices., even though this is a Delta flight. This airfare is for Sept. We were in Europe in Sept-Oct., so I didn't imagine that we would be able to go again next year!

Good to see everyone is finding great deals on flights ! If I wasn't having a slow day at work yesterday, not sure I would have had the time to log on at lunch to find these incredible rates. Happy travels everyone !! A few of you have noted something I found out this morning as well: if you aren't finding a good rate on Delta, go to Expedia or another flight broker. For some reason, Expedia still seems to have the low rates for Delta flights, but going directly thru Delta, they are much higher. How fares are set by airlines are one of the biggest mysteries in life.

Remember to check a range of dates if you have some flexibility.

I was thinking of flying on May 1, but when I changed the date to April 30, I spotted a KLM connection to Nice at $536 (plus seat-booking fees) with a very reasonable AMS layover. I hadn't noticed that routing before because the May 1 price was $350 higher. The KLM connection is much better than having to choose between two undesirable Paris-CDG connections--one too short and one over 4 hours.

So I join the others in thanking everyone who posts a notice when he or she stumbles on an apparent fare sale. It's a real load off my mind to have my flights set, and with no concern that they'll be vastly cheaper tomorrow.

This afternoon I got a ticket for $888, DTW-MXP, LHR-DTW. Last time I checked it was near $1500.

Very happy, thanks!

It appears this sale is ending quickly, maybe like now. Because of the notice on this RS thread, I was looking at an open jaws California - Europe ticket on United. Just a matter of minutes ago it was $450 round trip, then I refreshed, needed to start the search again, and the same ticket was $1400+. Or so it seems.

Bummer, Larry! Hope it comes back for you. I was on KLM and it came back with "we cannot find flights for your dates and destinations" but when I hit return they magically reappeared. Booked at 2 a.m. today.
EDIT Just looked at KLM, they are still showing great prices SFO to Italy through May and then again in September. But their prices to Amsterdam are around $1,100.

Thank you for posting this. Thank you again. Booked Portland, Oregon to Rome for $461 from May 12-31. We weren't going to go next year but...

Edit-purchased on Delta site, travel thru Amsterdam on Delta, KLM, Alitalia. One stop each way.

We have been checking daily for the last 3 or 4 weeks and the prices have been in the 1200 to 1300 range. Last night I checked and there it was $404 per person. Needless to say we have our tickets for our spring trip. It was Delta Tallahassee to Brussels then Amsterdam to Tallahassee. The trip over has two stops but that is fine with me. Short time at JFK but I believe we will be fine getting to our plane.

KLM is only through mid-May. Unfortunately, we can't go until late May or early June. $430 vs $1300 or more. That's open jaw Tulsa to Venice, Milan to Tulsa. I'll keep trying...

Keep checking, folks, they are still out there. Was booking a September trip from here to Dubrovnik and back from Ljubljana earlier, unfortunately Google flights had given only Delta connected stuff. Great fare of $424, but it's in and out of JFK. We are in Philly, Delta does not do Philly. And I suppose because of the flights in Europe, this did not show on Delta website and had to purchased on Orbitz. Because of something I saw here, I checked on Kayak and low and behold they gave me a United itinerary out of here. When i went to the United site, it wasn't there but a comparable one was. This was more costly,$ 490, but that still is with a "4" for the first digit. By my estimation, going to and from here to JFK would have cost at least that differential.

Just booked outbound flight from Chicago to London on May 6 and return flight from Paris to Chicago on May 14 for $433. Sounded too good to be true at first, but it's booked. Just got back from Italy, now we get to start planning for our next trip!

Booked Marseille for $455. Wow, spring break in the South of France for only a little more than Miami, and less than San Juan or Cancun! Flights are on Delta and Air France, but booked at KLM.

Just booked RT to Venice from Spokane for $478.00 for next October. Flights are KLM/Delta and AirFrance. I always use Expedia because they will bundle whatever flight with Alaska Air for Spokane to Seattle.

darrell, thank you, thank you for posting this! We booked tickets last evening through the Delta website for $479! Minneapolis to Berlin with stop in Amsterdam. Munich to Minneapolis with stop in Detroit. We really had to play with dates in September but couldn't pass up the deal. This past September we flew round trip to Europe for $888 and thought that was a bargain. Can't wait to share this price at the Thanksgiving table!!

If you check fares using Google Flights, you can then set an email alert for fare changes. We track Boston to Nice for our Italy trip, and Delta is still low this morning at 390. Euro.

I came up totally empty two days ago when I investigated options out of Raleigh-Durham and Atlanta to Italy for next September, but fares are very specific to origin, destination and date.

Where do you live, where do you want to go, and when?

The really great pricing seems to have ended a few days ago. We have two more family members who want to go with us to Ireland so I have started to watch west coast routes daily to see if another fare sale slips in there. In the mean time, fares are better than they had previously been with some SFO to DUB June dates for $800 per person RT but I think we have time to see if there is another price drop. The fares we purchased for ourselves last week were approximately 1/2 the current price. We are prepared to pay about $1000 per person or use our FF miles if our son and his wife really want to come but I'm not acting yet, seeing if there will be some better fares in the next couple of months and watching routes daily.

There are still quite a few cheap fares available. I did a random search from Denver to Paris for April and am finding sub 500 fares but mainly for CDG, AMS, BRU.

Here is the easy way to search:

Go to Google Flights
Enter your home airport (remember you can add upto 5 originating airports if you want, you can also add upto 5 destinations separated by a comma). For this exercise, limit it to just your home airport
DESTINATION - enter EUROPE - do not enter a specific destination
Enter your desired travel dates

You can then look at what shows up below or click and expand the map that shows up to see what fares are like.

With the map open, you can play with the dates at the side and see the price changing.

Yes I see that there are still good airfares to select European destinations from some west coast airports but the really low fares we were seeing a week ago now end on about May 10. If you are traveling after May 10 like we are the low fares aren't available any more for "summer" travel. I'll keep watching. Thank goodness we at least got two tickets at the sale price last week.

We booked this week from JFK to Rome round trip for $663.00. It was booked through Delta but I believe the plane will actually be Alitalia. That airline is not my favorite but so cheap we couldn't pass it up and i still get my Delta miles. By the way from there we are heading to Sicily on Ryan air. $58.
