If San Marco is important to you, do that Saturday morning or early afternoon – Saturday evening and much of Sunday there will be Masses going on, and you won't be allowed in unless you are attending the liturgy. I'd suggest going when the mosaics are lit; I think it's at 11, but check their website for the precise time.

At San Rocco I've never seen a line. And I can't comment on the Doge's palace, since I visited with reservations for the secret itinerary tour.

Doge's Palace. Directly across the square from St. mark's church is the Correr Museum. It 's literally in the square itself. Go there first. Buy a combo. ticket. Visit the Correr first and use their restrooms. Then, walk across the square to Doge's palace. You can now skip the long line and get in the very short reserved ticket line (there may not even be a line). Cruise into Doge's palace. Check your bag at the free bag check stand. Enjoy!

Planning ahead, then?

I've not had to wait for an entry into either S Rocco or the Doge's little house. But when I went it was not tomorrow or the day after tomorrow. So I have no idea if you will have a long or short wait. Sorry.

15 to 20 minutes to get into S Marco is about average for me, but I can't predict this weekend; best to visit when illuminated - free.

S Rocco, go to the door to get tickets. Same for the Doge's digs. Or the Correr can help.

It is all in your book.

I waited ten minutes to get into San Marco in May. While you are in the Piazza, consider taking the elevator to the top of the Bell Tower. There are not that mant places in Venice to have those views.

We were in Venice last weekend (sigh - already a week gone) and when we got to San Marco the line was halfway across the piazza, but, it moved fairly quickly - 15 min and we were in - and it wasn't even overly crowded considering the people in the line - that was on Monday...

...and as an add-on - we've already done the Campanile (bell tower) a few years ago, so we went over to San Giorgio Maggiore right across the lagoon and went up in that bell tower. I think it was 6euro, no line whatsoever, and amazing views of St Marks across the way. We were up at 1pm...the bell rang once (thank goodness because no warning and DING!!). There were maybe 10-12 people up top.
