It’s a beautiful day in Varenna; clear, blue skies, sun sparkling on the water, high 70s to low 80s, swans swimming, ferries and boats of every sort skimming the lake. It’s an Italian holiday so instead of swarms of Americans holding Rick’s guidebook, the town is filled with Italians. Who knew?! 😄. If you’re headed this way, it should stay nice for the rest of the week.

Hi Emily, I’m one lake over from you at Stresa on Lake Maggiore. The forecast was calling for possible light rain, but it has been a gorgeous day! I’m resting my feet a moment in my hotel room with the balcony door open, hearing the happy sounds below of Italian enjoying their National Republic Day.

I am onboard an Atlanta-bound flight and headed back to Paris today. I just left my bedroom at my parents' house, where a photo of Varenna seen from up high at the Eremo del Gaudio. From the first trip I made to Italy (his home country) with my then-boyfriend, now husband.

Emily, did you get any of the heavy rains at Lake Como? I was literally soaked on Isola Bella with constant heavy rain! Very thankful for my special room with the two large balcony doors to enjoy the day relaxing. Then this morning, gorgeous again!
I’m in Cremona now, and the weather is mildly warm - very nice! Enjoy your time in Italy!
